What is a code?

World Meteorological Organization

A code is a definition of a particular concept, provided by the WMO.

Each code on the WMO site is published as an entry with its own unique identifier, a URI (Uniform Resource Identifier).

The collection of statements in the definition table provide information about the code and its use.

Often these statements link to other resources within the WMO registry and across the web.

Codes are organised within registers, providing context for those codes. A list of related codes about a particular topic will be published as a register.

Codes and registers are available in a variety of Resource Description Framework (RDF) formats, via content negotiation, as well as in pretty web pages.
